Book Summary of The Sense of an Ending
The Sense of an Ending is an intelligent, emotion-laden narrative of a man and his tryst with his past.
Summary of The Sense of an Ending
The Sense of an Ending is a gripping tale of a man who is revisited by a murky chapter from his past.
Years after a forgettable incident, when Tony Webster is leading a regular middle-aged life, destiny, in the form of a lawyer's letter, makes him revisit his past and examine his actions more closely.
Are the events of his past squeaky clean?
Have some tainted memories been hidden away at the back of his mind for long?
The book kicks off when readers are introduced to a group of adolescent friends, one that includes Tony and Adrian Finn. Their typical rollercoaster teen life passes uneventfully, with girls, jokes, buried affections and wit defining their times together. Things take an unexpected turn when Adrian, the most ambitious and smart person in their group, commits suicide. His friends move on – till Tony is dragged back to his past due to a chain of events.
The Sense of an Ending can be aptly described as a novella, and it conveys the entire story in just 150 pages. The author was the recipient of the Man Booker Prize for his book in the year 2011.
