Description of Indian Culture and Indias Future (English) (Paperback) by Michel Danino

Indian Culture And India's Future gives the reader an insight into the abundance of India's culture. It speaks about the contribution of the country's culture to the world and about the crossroads the culture and the country find themselves at presently.

Summary Of The Book

Indian Culture And India's Future is a guide to India's past, its thinkers, its achievements and its contributors. It also attempts at discerning the many reasons that have led to Indians having a strange sense of disassociation for their country, heritage and culture. The author also tries to reason out the lack of pride for the country that is prevalent among many Indians.

The book's first part, "A Thousand-Branched Tree" introduces the reader to the scientists of ancient India and their discoveries, the influence of India's culture over many parts of the world, the country's contributions in the fields of art and culture, and the deep-rooted respect for nature and the environment. The next part, titled "Indian Culture at the Crossroads", discusses the many issues that plague present day India's cultural identity and their causes. The last section, "India and the World", looks into the stereotypes, distortions and complete lies that have defamed India.

In his book, Indian Culture And India's Future, the author states that Indian culture is not an ancient relic, but something that is ever changing and still has a very important role to play in shaping the country's identity. It is also an answer to many of the challenges that the world faces today. Written in a clear and engaging style, the book is an attempt to answer questions like what is the meaning of being an Indian. How does the rest of the world perceive India, its culture and its contribution? What is the meaning of tolerance and secularism in the context of India? These are also some of the questions that are answered in the book.
