Book Summary of The Girl Who Played With Fire

The Girl Who Played With Fire is the second book in the Millennium Trilogy by Swedish journalist, Stieg Larsson. The book picks up about a year from where its forerunner, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, left the plot. In the book, the asocial and rather unconventional Lisbeth Salander gets caught in a murder intrigue, which forces her to confront her dark past.

Summary of the Book
The two protagonists of The Girl Who Played With Fire remain the same as in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Lisbeth Salander makes a re-appearance in this book, in a slightly more shapely form, after a bust enhancement surgery. However, she remains as asocial, silent and intriguing as she was in her first avatar. The crusading and rather promiscuous hero, Mikael Blomkvist is back too. In this book, along with another reporter and a PhD student, he works on a sex-and-sleaze story regarding a prostitution ring that services highly powerful people in Swedish society.
Blomkvist is shocked when both his colleagues are brutally killed, but he is astonished when Lisbeth Salander becomes the prime suspect. Even as a disbelieving Blomkvist tries to prove her innocence, Lisabeth Salander finds herself being targeted by both the police and killers. The ensuing tense drama forces her back to a past she desperately wants to forget.
The Girl Who Played With Fire was in the Top 10 of The Sunday Times Hardback Bestseller list. The book was also adapted into a movie. The Millennium Trilogy is a crime series that was published posthumously after the author’s demise. The books have sold 65 million copies worldwide.
