In Brisingr Inheritance: Eragon - Inheritance Cycle, Book 3,
accompanied by his dragon Saphira, Eragon furthers his quest to end the
reign of Galbatorix, the corrupt ruler of their nation.
Summary Of The Book
Brisingr Inheritance: Eragon - Inheritance Cycle, Book 3 is the third book in the Inheritance Cycle fantasy series. The entire series is set in a fictional nation called Alagaesia. The empire is initially ruled by the Dragon Riders. However, a traitorous Rider named Galbatorix becomes successful in gaining complete control of the Alagaesian empire.
Galbatorix is now afraid that another Rider might become successful in snatching the empire from his hands. His fears are confirmed when he learns that Eragon, the last Dragon Rider alive, is on a mission to overthrow the empire.
He acts quickly and sends out his men to capture Eragon and his dragon Saphira. Eragon and Saphira flee from their home and end up joining Varden, a rebel group which shares Eragon’s cause.
The book picks up the story after the events that ended the second book, Eldest. The story is narrated from the perspective of the primary protagonists, including the humans Eragon, Nasuada, Roran, and the dragons Glaedr and Saphira.
It begins with the rescue of Katrina, Roran’s betrothed, from Helgrind. Later, Eragon and Saphira go to Ellesmera, the elven capital, to train. There Eragon finally discovers the identity of his father, and the secret of Galbatorix’s power. He also pays a visit to the elven blacksmith Rhunon, who gifts him a new sword. Eragon names the sword Brisingr.
He returns to Varden, only to discover that the siege of Feinster is underway. The siege eventually ends, after which Nasuada, the leader of the Varden, briefs Eragon on the Varden’s plan to overthrow Galbatorix.
Brisingr was published on September 20, 2008, by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers. On the very first day, the book sold 550,000 copies, creating a record of sorts. It topped USA Today’s list of top 150 bestsellers, staying on the list for 25 weeks at a stretch. The book received positive reviews. This particular edition of the book is a 2009 reprint.
